Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Renato Veiga from Basel in a deal worth €14m (£12m/$15m).

WHAT HAPPENED?
Chelsea have announced the signing of Veiga on an extraordinary seven-year deal. The 20-year-old has committed his future to the Blues, and they also hold the option to extend his contract by a further year. Per Fabrizio Romano, they have paid €14m for the star.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Veiga is a Portugal Under-21 international and he plays primarily as a defensive midfielder. During his time at Basel, he played 26 times, scoring twice, having come through the ranks at Sporting CP. He also spent 2023 on loan at Augsburg in the Bundesliga.

Veiga told Chelsea's official website: "I’m absolutely buzzing to be here. This is one of the biggest clubs in England – the biggest for me – and I’m just really excited to get started."
