The Red Dragons’ Hollywood co-chairmen donated $2,000 (£1,600) to Rothwell’s fundraising campaign prior to the 73-year-old taking on an Atlantic Ocean rowing challenge. He has completed that quest, making his way from the Canary Islands to Antigua.

    THE BIGGER PICTURE

Rothwell will be forever grateful to Reynolds, McElhenney and all of those that committed much-needed funds to a good cause. He can now turn his attention back to football matters, with Oldham currently pushing for a place in the National League play-offs.

  • WHAT ROTHWELL SAID ABOUT REYNOLDS & MCELHENNEY

They could be reunited with Wrexham if promotion is secured in 2023-24, but the Welsh outfit are flying high in League Two and are looking to take another step up of their own. Rothwell hopes that will be the case, saying when asked if he has a message for Reynolds and McElhenney: “This is what I’d like to say to Ryan and Rob – thank you very much for the donation you made. Thank you very much indeed and I wish Wrexham all the best. I hope Wrexham get promoted because we don’t want to play you again next year!”

    WHAT NEXT?

Oldham locked horns with Wrexham on three occasions last season, in the National League and FA Cup. The Red Dragons emerged victorious in all of those fixtures – prevailing by a combined score of 10-2 – so it comes as no surprise that the Latics are reluctant to take in a reunion any time soon.
